Why McDonald's AI Drive-Thru Is Coming To A Screeching Halt

A "Rise of the Robots" scenario right out of "The Terminator" is one of the things that's causing anxiety in the first quarter of the twenty-first century.

Well, so it's not so much about mecha-monsters out to exterminate humanity at this point

perhaps it's more of a "Battlestar Galactica" thing), but rather the very real chance that a sizable portion of us will eventually lose our jobs to artificial intelligence.

Undoubtedly, that time is coming (the McKinsey Global Institute projects that there may be a loss of about 800 million jobs globally by 2030), but for some McDonald's

It appears that the drive-thrus for the food business will soon have all of its employees be human.

In 2021, McDonald's began testing AI drive-thrus in collaboration with IBM; by today, more than 100 locations have this system installed.

It's not without its hiccups, which have probably given consumers headaches and given rise to memes on social media.

Several widely shared films have demonstrated AI misinterpreting customer requests, adding unnecessary things to their orders, and generally making mistakes.
